Chapter 349: The Tai’e Clan, An Indelible Spiritual Will
Chapter 349: The Tai’e Clan, An Indelible Spiritual Will
Yang Chan’s mind raced with countless thoughts as he read the inscription in Taiyin Heaven.
The opportunity to restore a fallen dynasty must be related to breaking through to the National Guardian Martial Saint realm. An opportunity like this was bound to attract many others.
It wouldn’t just be the various Major Sects and the Court of the Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty. Powers from Foreign Countries would surely be tempted to fight for it as well. This meant that this strange, unfamiliar space was far more dangerous than he had imagined.
More than the opportunity, Yang Chan was concerned about the unknown dangers. These were threats that could cost him his life, so naturally, he paid them much more attention.
His gaze moved further down the stone tablet. The information it contained was substantial, and it helped Yang Chan understand some of the history behind this place.
The person who carved the stone tablet was a member of the Tai’e Clan, a descendant of those who had been Tributors to the White Dragon.
After the Tai’e Clan suffered heavy casualties, its people raised their butcher knives and killed the severely wounded White Dragon.
They tore out its tendons and stripped its bones, ate its flesh, and drank its blood. One by one, their bodies grew powerful.
They didn’t spare the Black Dragon’s body either, consuming all of it until nothing was left.
According to the inscription, the White Dragon had failed to protect the Tai’e Clan, dashing the hopes of the Human Race, so the Tai’e Clan no longer believed in it.
By consuming the flesh and blood of the White and Black Dragons, the Tai’e Clan not only survived the famine but also grew incredibly strong and robust. However, this great power did not bring peace, but disaster.
With their newfound strength, the Tai’e Clan began to wage wars of conquest to expand their territory. It was incredibly successful at first. However, most of those who had eaten the White Dragon’s flesh and blood died within five years. Even the young ones who survived couldn’t live past the age of thirty.
According to the clan elders, this was the White Dragon Curse—a punishment from their former guardian deity.
The curse doomed the Tai’e Clan to eternal unrest, a punishment ensuring their lineage would not continue.
Even when new generations were born, each child hale and hearty, they would all die before turning eighteen. Before reaching that age, they would meet a sudden, inexplicable end.
The Tai’e Clan’s period of strength lasted only a few short years before they began to decline. The once-mighty clan that had dominated others crumbled and fell apart, and its survivors were hunted down.
The one who carved this stone tablet was from the last generation. They hid inside Taiyin Heaven to escape their pursuers, and these carvings are the last traces left by the Tai’e Clan.
The story itself was straightforward: The White Dragon they believed in fought with one of its own kind, destroying the Tai’e Clan’s food source and killing countless clan members. In retaliation, seeing the White Dragon severely wounded, some of the clan members killed it, leaving not even its bones behind. They then grew powerful and ambitious, but were ultimately killed by a mysterious force. Just as the Tai’e Clan showed signs of rising, they slowly began to face extinction.
This was the story recorded on the tablet, but to Yang Chan, it was just a tale he was observing from the sidelines.
He figured the White Dragon mentioned wasn’t necessarily a True Dragon from myths and legends. After all, he had seen that Exotic Beast—the giant python—and its body was already incredibly powerful. These Exotic Beasts could also possess all sorts of abilities.
It wasn’t impossible that the Tai’e Clan had worshipped an Exotic Beast resembling a giant python. If so, their subsequent fate was likely because there was a problem with the Exotic Beast’s flesh and blood. Or perhaps, during their rise, they had consumed some other foreign substance that caused problems for the entire clan, leading to their gradual demise.
This was a very real possibility. Not all Exotic Beast Flesh was edible, let alone eating it raw and drinking its blood.
Pythons carry many parasites. Eating their flesh raw and drinking their blood would likely mean ingesting those parasites.
If these parasites could survive inside an Exotic Beast, they couldn’t be dealt with by conventional means. This would explain why the members of the Tai’e Clan, even after becoming powerful, couldn’t eliminate the source of the parasites within their bodies.
Furthermore, according to the inscription, the Tai’e Clan likely had no complete Cultivation Technique, which left them helpless. Their rise was too brief to have established a powerful legacy.
’Looks like there won’t be much to gain here.’
Yang Chan sighed after reading the inscription. However, based on what was written, this Green Brick Courtyard didn’t seem too dangerous, which was good news for him.
’A White Dragon-type Exotic Beast... could it be a Flood Dragon?!’
’That kind of creature hovers somewhere between myth and Exotic Beast. Not quite invincible, but still stronger than an Exotic Beast like a giant python.’
’But if Flood Dragons really exist, I wonder who would be stronger—one of them or a National Guardian Martial Saint?’
Many thoughts surfaced in Yang Chan’s mind, all bubbling up after reading the inscription.
If True Dragons existed, they wouldn’t have died at the hands of the Tai’e Clan. Such a powerful being’s draconic aura alone would have been enough to keep the clan members from even approaching, perhaps even killing them outright.
The True Dragons of myth should be akin to Immortals, undying and eternal. They wouldn’t deign to be supported by the Human Race. Instead, they would be beings that roamed the great seas, summoning clouds and rain across the heavens and earth.
If such creatures existed, there would at least be records of them among the Major Sects and the Imperial Dynasty, rather than a complete lack of information.
Being supported by the Tai’e Clan seemed more like a form of cooperation between ancient people and an Exotic Beast. When the ’White Dragon’ nearly wiped out the Tai’e Clan, the clan killed the ’White Dragon’ in turn.
There was no deep-seated reverence between them, only the hatred that followed a shattered partnership. This conclusion aligned with Yang Chan’s own speculations.
Yang Chan’s gaze fell upon the final seal on the stone tablet, left by someone named Tai Amin. From these marks, Yang Chan could clearly feel a sense of despair mixed with regret, along with unwillingness and hatred. It was an extremely complex mix of emotions. There were even bloodstains on the carvings.
’Strange. If my theory is correct, these people shouldn’t have been too powerful. According to the inscription, even with the boost from Exotic Beast Blood, Tai Amin’s Lifespan shouldn’t have exceeded eighteen years. His Cultivation wouldn’t have been that high either. How could the Divine Intent he left behind last for so long?’
A question arose in Yang Chan’s mind.
Based on the inscription, this person’s Cultivation was likely weaker than his own, yet the Divine Intent he left behind had persisted for so long. This was true for both the murals from before and the carvings on this stone tablet.
These things had existed for over several hundred years, possibly even from before the founding of the Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty. Over such a long period, the Divine Intent on the carvings left by Tai Amin should have long since faded away, not continued to exist.
After all, he was someone who had comprehended Sword Momentum. He had also consumed numerous Elixirs to enhance his Spiritual Power and practiced many Martial Seal techniques. His Spiritual Power alone was now strong enough to break through to the Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmaster realm, far surpassing his peers and even many of the older generation. And yet, any Divine Intent he left behind would last a few years at most; it could never achieve something like this.
At that moment, Yang Chan looked at the stone tablet before him again, and a new theory formed in his mind.
