Chapter 606 - 605: A Dark and Windy Night
Chapter 606 - 605: A Dark and Windy Night
Hearing one of the females speak so extravagantly, the others grew displeased.
’When did a male’s Beast Mark become so precious? Don’t they know that every inch of land in Pingjing is worth its weight in Crystal Stones?’ They had been raised in wealth, ignorant of worldly suffering, and had no concept of what it meant to cherish something.
However, the mansions, shops, and land in Pingjing were the very foundation that allowed them to spend Crystal Stones like dirt. They were very clear on that point.
"Qian Man, which male is so worthy that you’d trade a mansion for him?"
The young female, who wasn’t short on Crystal Stones, smiled and said, "It’s Lord Changping. He has a common background, but he’s powerful. He’s only been a Beast Soldier for a few years, and he’s already risen from a mere soldier to a Junior General.
He’s sure to climb even higher in the future. Sooner or later, he’ll become a Great General!
An outstanding and excellent male like him should be my partner, not held back by some common female..."
Next to Si Shuo, a teenage gray goose boy quickly began explaining to her family who Lord Changping was.
To make a name for yourself in Pingjing, both your cultivation and talent had to be exceptional. Generally, only the prominent families, with their abundant resources and powerful connections, could produce such impressive descendants.
This was what made the achievements of people like Changping or Xu Feng so remarkable.
The information the gray goose boy knew was rather vague—all surface-level details, and its authenticity was questionable.
Not to be outdone, the other females chimed in, each describing the male they had their eye on and demanding she help them snatch him. They were used to Beastmen of lower status groveling before them, so they made no effort to hide their intentions. The Princess’s warnings were long forgotten as they tried to resolve the matter with what amounted to threats and demands.
Normally, the Princess wouldn’t have thought much of it. But seeing the arrogant, haughty expressions on these females, each looking like they couldn’t wait to trample someone underfoot, her heart sank. Then, glancing at Si Shuo’s calm expression, she felt a strange sense of schadenfreude for some reason.
Once all the females had stated their demands, they stared at Si Shuo with burning eyes, expecting her to get to work immediately.
But Si Shuo just lowered her gaze and rubbed her stomach. "Princess, we’ve had a long and dusty journey. We flew for three days and two nights, and our feet have just touched the ground. Could we get a hot meal?"
The Princess nodded repeatedly and called for someone to bring over the freshly roasted lamb.
Si Shuo’s eyes lit up slightly. She loved roasted lamb skewers. She immediately pretended to take something from her Storage Ring, but in reality, she retrieved it from her Sumeru Space.
The flatbread was soft and chewy, still warm. She rolled the roasted lamb and some greens inside, brushed on a layer of chili sauce, and took a bite. It was so good it would silence anyone who ate it.
Her whole family buried their faces in their wraps, eating with great relish. The other females waited impatiently, wishing they could eat for them.
"Si Shuo Divine Servant, you can still handle business while you eat, can’t you? It’ll only take a moment. Surely you can endure your hunger for a little while..."
"We’ve been waiting all morning... Si Shuo Divine Servant, you should get to work first. You can’t possibly make all of us wait for your family to eat and drink your fill, can you?"
"You may be a Counselor at the Princess Mansion, but I advise you not to get ahead of yourself. There isn’t a single one of us here you can afford to offend..."
The Princess hurried forward to state her position. "Si Shuo Divine Servant, I truly had no idea they were like this. Rest assured, even if it costs me my dignity as the Princess, I will have them thrown out."
’She figured that anyone with a bit of worldly sense would understand the hidden meaning in her words: not only should Si Shuo not hold this against them, but she should also satisfy the females’ demands.’
Ling Xue was a princess; she knew all too well that once a Beastman crossed a line, there was no limit to how low they could go. Greed was the same. Once sparked, it would only grow larger and larger.
But Si Shuo simply nodded. "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Princess. I’m a person who prefers peace and quiet. It would be best if I could have a small courtyard with access to the street. Please arrange it for me, Princess. I’m full now, and I’m sore all over and want to sleep."
"Wait, you haven’t done anything and you already want to sleep?" The others were stunned. ’So after all our commotion, she didn’t hear a single word?’
Si Shuo kept her eyes lowered.
The Princess couldn’t figure out what Si Shuo was thinking and could only helplessly order someone to arrange accommodations for the family first.
The courtyard Si Shuo’s family was given had three main rooms and two side rooms on either side. One gate connected to the Princess Mansion, while the other opened directly onto a bustling street.
’It had been a long time since they had properly lived in a house.’ The males cleaned up quickly. When they came out, they found the young female so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open, her head bobbing like a chick pecking at grain.
She slept soundly, and by the time she woke up, the sky outside was already dark.
"Did the Princess and her group cause a scene? Why was it so quiet? Are they still here, or did they just leave a few Gate Gods behind?" After a quick Dust Cleaning Technique, Si Shuo felt refreshed and began to gnaw on a piece of corn.
"Shuo’er, the Princess persuaded them all to leave," Yin Jiang said with a smile.
"It’s not like they had a choice. Big Sis slept for a whole day and night. No matter how arrogant they are, even they would get tired of waiting."
Only then did Si Shuo realize she had slept for so long.
Seeing how dark it was outside, she couldn’t help but purse her lips and whisper, "A dark and windy night... perfect for mischief.
Why don’t we have Shi Si sniff the Bone Tokens? We can see how many Beastmen in the city have used Horned Deer Beastmen to extend their lives. It’s best to have a clear picture of the situation."
The males exchanged a glance, nodded, and all turned to look at Shi Si.
The little guy grinned, revealing a set of white teeth, his five black tails wagging furiously behind him. He loved being able to help his family and was always willing to give it his all.
Xu Chi took out all the Bone Tokens, and Shi Si sniffed them one by one. This superpower of his was very limited, but at least this time he could take on a real responsibility.
Shi Si could track the concentration and direction of an item’s scent as needed, gathering a lot of useful information.
Sure enough, several of the Bone Tokens began to react to something nearby, slowly growing warm.
Xu Chi’s Invisibility Ability was powerful. Ji Liang could use Teleportation anytime, anywhere. The two of them flanked Shi Si and headed out, determined to identify the nearby targets.
Si Shuo couldn’t really sleep either, so she simply used Teleportation to go along with them.
The night outside was as thick as ink, but Shi Si, guided by the scent, pulled them precisely to the neighboring courtyard.
Si Shuo took out a notebook and, using the Princess Mansion as a reference point, marked the location with a circle.
’The infighting in Pingjing must be severe.’ It looked peaceful on the surface, but everyone was highly vigilant. An Array had been set up over this courtyard.
They couldn’t enter the Array without alerting the occupants, so they could only regretfully move on to the next location.
They encountered several similar situations, but at least they could pinpoint the locations. This would allow them to investigate each one later and create a preliminary list of targets.
Gong You was setting up a Time Array nearby. A single night was simply too short. Without the help of the Time Law, they wouldn’t be able to investigate more than a few places.
