Chapter 187: Descent 2
Chapter 187: Descent 2
At first, when the I realized I was also scared and filled with dread when the others were also struck with it, I didn’t understand while I was feeling the immense dread.
I mean, out of everyone of us, I was the least likely to die, I could literally be on the other side of the planet right now if I wished. So why did I also feel it alongside everyone? It was as puzzling as it was frustrating.
So why did I feel the dread heighten when Rose bolted at the creature? Surely the dread wasn’t because of her right? But... that was impossible, I didn’t care nearly enough about her to feel scared for her.
But why was there suddenly a second figure rushing after her? It took me another moment to realize that the second figure was... me.
"We’ll be damned." I cursed, as I sped across the water after her. The creature had probably used the Naga queen’s ability to lure Rose towards itself.
BOOOM!
Rose reached the disgusting creature and fired a concentrated flash of flames at it. The creature swung a one of it’s hands at the flames, and the sheer force generated from it’s movements dispersed the flames and sent Rose flying backwards, even though the creature missed her.
Instinctively, a reflection appeared next to me and jumped up to catch Rose while I proceeded to attack the creature.
"Fall!" I slashed at the creature vertically. The water between us split in two as a massive wind slash flew at the creature.
The bastard crossed its arms, shielding itself from the onslaught of the attack, but it still carved shallow cuts on its arms, which to my frustration were already healing in less than a second.
Meanwhile, the reflection that had caught Rose swung her and threw her straight back at the creature.
Clang!
Her sword flashed violently with the sharp blades it had for fingers, generating sparks, before it’s other arm swing towards Rose, aiming to knock her away.
However, before it could reach her, it’s arm suddenly slowed down as if in slow motion as Sia appeared next to it, held onto Rose, before retreating as rapidly as she had appeared.
The moment moment Sia and Rose disappeared from there, Alistair’s golden figure streaked across the surface of the water and headed for the creature.
"Upthrust!" His spear shrouded by golden light pierced through a vacuum generated by the sheer force it carried and detonated the air violently as it struck the torso of the creature.
BOOOM!
The creature was pushed back a few meters, but almost immediately, one of it’s hand shot towards Alistair swatting him out of the air like a mere bug.
"I was wrong!!" The creature yelled, it’s grotesque face split apart by a grin that displayed its sharp rows of teeth. "This realm isn’t as insignificant as ever, it’s more pathetic than ever, hehehehe!" It’s hysterical laughter rang out.
It was then that I realized we can’t beat this thing, at least not in the water, where we were practically off our feet unless we were moving at high speeds.
Whether we liked it or not we’d have to lure the creature to the land. However what happened next completely removed the thought of ever defeating it from my head.
BOOM!
It’s malice filled aura suddenly skyrocketed, rising and rising until it broke into the Zeta+ rank from the Zeta rank. It had started advancing it’s rank.
"Everyone, run!!" I turned back and yelled, running on the sea as fast as I could. The others didn’t need to be told twice, hell most of them were in front of me, and only Alistair was behind me.
Together we sped towards land as fast as our legs could kick against the surface of the water.
"We can’t beat that thing!" Calum shouted as he ran for dear life.
"No shit." I scoffed.
We continued to bolt for the next few seconds, and were a few meters away from land when a smooth alluring voice echoed through my head, it sounded les like a voice and more like a lullaby.
’Young offspring of the human race, be honored you’re the first to witness the descent of this queen. Come to me, and I’ll make your dreams come true.’
The moment those words passed through my head, my consciousness sank and I lost my footing and sank into the water.
"Curse this ability!" I cursed the moment I regained myself. Thankfully, water at this level wasn’t quite deep, and Aric quickly dragged me out of the water.
"Than...." I began thanking Aric, but my words were cut short by the blades appendage that slashed towards us.
’How the fuck did it get here this fast?’ was the thought on my mind as both Aric and I pushed each other away and just barely managed to dodge the blades appendage from taking our heads off.
The moment the bladed appendage swung, it parted the shallow water and split the earth hundreds of meters behind us.
"..."
Aric and I exchanged a glance, before dashing out of the water in a frenzy. That thing was out of our league. However, before we fully got out of the water, Rose who was ahead suddenly turned back and dashed towards us.
"Are you crazy!" I shouted and reached for her hand but ultimately failed to hold her just as she passed between Aric and myself.
"Blizzard vale." Rose’s calm voice fell as she swung her sword at the incoming creature. For a moment, everything slowed down, I didn’t know if it was because of the attack or something else, but everything did.
Then everything, be it the air or the water, they all crystalized into ice from the point where Rose swung her sword to the creature, and for hundreds of meters past it.
Every single thing stayed still, including the creature who stood as if frozen in time.
"..."
"..."
Aric and I watched gobsmacked. It wasn’t that I couldn’t do something like this, it’s was just that I hadn’t thought of it before.
"Let’s go, this will only hold for less than ten seconds." Rose said as she sped past us.
"Go on, I’ll meet up later." I said to Aric.
"Fine." Aric nodded and bolted after Rose.
"..." The least he could do was pretend he didn’t want to leave me alone. But he just up and left without even trying to argue. Not that I was upset or anything, besides, Aric also knew I could get away anytime I wished.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Cracking sounds began snapping the atmosphere as the ice encasing the creature began breaking.
"This is going to take up a lot of aether." I muttered as the bands of Legom appeared on my wrists.
The ice continued cracking for the next three seconds, before they shattered in a violent fashion, sending multiple shards, both big and small flying everywhere.
But that wasn’t what worried me, what worried me was that the creature was now free, and worse, the aura it was giving off was that of the Gamma- rank.
"....What the fuck?...." I muttered in disbelief. It wasn’t supposed to advance this fast. At this pace it would be at the Beta rank before the others leave the city.
"Filthy human, you think freezing me would stop me?" The creature’s eerie grotesque face bent over looking at me as it malevolent aura began pressing down on me, making my knees buckle.
My answer to that was raising both my hands, and channeling eighty percent of the aether I had into the artifact on my wrists.
"Have you ever looked in the mirror?" I asked, and the creature looked confused for a moment, before realization dawned on it.
"You..." It’s shrill roar was cut short as I mustered all the strength my theta ranked body could muster, and hit both my wrists together in it’s direction.
Clang! A piercing sound of metal hitting metal rang through the atmosphere, followed by a;
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
The creature literally disappeared from my view as the sea split apart and a massive trench was torn on the seabed. Before the cataclysmic shockwave could rebound on me however, I quickly swapped with a reflection, and my reflection was torn apart by the lingering shockwave.
-------------
I appeared next to a running Aric who turned to look at me.
"Is that... your doing?" he gestured at the distant churning sea.
Before I could reply however, the earth shook so violently it would have thrown us off our feet if we were mundane humans. Buildings collapsed like sand castles, and the roads split apart.
"The sea wasn’t the only one affected I guess." I muttered as we navigated through raining debris, and the quaking earth.
"How did you even do that?" Aric’s incredulous voice was hard to miss even among the cacophony of sounds.
"This." I gestured to my wrists where the bands still laid.
At that moment however, the sky suddenly turned pitch black, and tusnamis of impossible sizes rose towards the city.
"VILE HUMAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!" A shrill voice rang out from the sea.
"Seven hells."
