Chapter 342 -342-An Angel Sent by God
Chapter 342 -342-An Angel Sent by God
Nurentin, a fast-food restaurant.
Daniel sat beneath the dim yellow light, counting the savings in his hand. Exhausted, he rubbed his sore eyes.
"The tuition is enough, but I’m still short on living expenses."
Hearing this, Kelly immediately rummaged through her bag and pulled out a stack of bills.
"I saved five thousand over the past three months of work. Take it all."
She stuffed the money into his hand, her tone leaving no room for refusal.
"You know my shop provides food and lodging. Use this first."
"Five thousand? Your monthly wage is only two thousand..."
Daniel’s eyes widened in surprise.
Kelly proudly lifted her chin, her smile carrying a hint of playfulness.
"That’s nothing. If not for some necessary expenses, I could have saved even more. Next month, I can save nineteen hundred."
"But your grandmother..."
Daniel frowned slightly.
Kelly froze for a moment, then spoke in a relaxed tone.
"It’s a small problem. I can ask my boss for an advance on my wages. Your schooling is more important."
Daniel quietly looked at her.
It was as though he had returned to that starving noon in high school, to the moment she had walked over with a lunchbox.
Kelly truly seemed like an angel sent by God to save him.
"Thank you, Kelly."
His voice was a little choked.
"You must wait for me to graduate."
Kelly’s ears were already completely red.
She lowered her head and replied softly,
"Okay."
...
On that very day,
Her grandmother fell seriously ill and was sent to the intensive care unit.
Kelly wanted to go, only to discover that she could not even scrape together the fare.
The surgery fee was an astronomical sum.
She gritted her teeth, her nails digging into her palm.
"I can’t let Daniel worry. I can handle this."
She had once heard Aunt Carly next door mention a place where one could exchange blood for money...
...
At the blood station.
Kelly timidly walked through the cold glass doors and found the staff member behind the counter.
"Excuse me..."
Her hands clutched the hem of her clothes.
"How much money can I get for selling blood?"
The staff member raised his head and looked at the sallow-faced young girl before him.
He wanted to say, You’re still young and malnourished. Go home and take better care of yourself before coming back.
But then he thought again.
If she had not reached the end of her rope, why would a teenage girl ever step into a place like this?
He sighed, his eyes carrying a trace of pity.
"Little girl, I hope this is the last time you ever appear here."
...
Several years later, at dusk.
An apartment in the city.
Click!
The sound of a key turning came from outside the door, and Kelly jumped up cheerfully.
Daniel pushed the door open and entered, his expression dazed, as though he had just awakened from a nightmare.
"What’s wrong? Did something go wrong with the exam?"
The excitement on Kelly’s face instantly vanished, replaced by deep worry.
"My investment failed. The product’s reception was mediocre. I lost everything!"
Daniel hugged Kelly tightly, his voice choked.
"Kelly, am I a complete bastard? I lost every cent we saved over all these years."
Tears burst from his eyes and slid down his cheeks.
"I wanted to wait until I graduated next year and give you a proper wedding... But now..."
"It’s okay..."
Kelly gently patted his head, as though comforting an injured child.
"It’s all right. I’ve also saved some money over the years. There should be a little over a hundred thousand..."
"What!"
Daniel suddenly raised his head, light bursting from his eyes.
"Give it all to me! I’ll definitely win back everything we lost!"
Kelly looked into those burning eyes and nodded heavily.
"Okay. I’ll give it all to you!"
"I believe in you!"
...
One year later.
It was still that same apartment.
Daniel was decorating the place for the wedding, bustling around the home.
Kelly brought steaming dishes out from the kitchen and set the bowls and chopsticks.
"Dinner’s ready."
Her voice was like birdsong in the morning.
"Coming, my dear."
Daniel walked over and sat down. Looking at the two simple dishes before him, his face bloomed with a smile.
"They look wonderful."
"Go wash your hands."
Kelly rolled her eyes at him, though that gaze was filled with sweetness.
"As you command, my Kelly."
Daniel walked briskly toward the sink.
The two sat down.
Daniel picked up his spoon and was just about to start eating.
"Wait."
Kelly suddenly took out two brand-new spoons from beside her.
"I bought two new spoons. On a special day like today, there should at least be something new. We can’t afford anything else, but we can still afford spoons."
Daniel smiled and accepted the spoon.
He scooped up some food and stuffed it into his mouth, speaking unclearly as he chewed.
"My dear, your cooking is truly a delicacy of this world."
"I wish I could eat it every single day!"
Kelly smiled, happiness filling even the fine lines at the corners of her eyes.
"Then, Mr. Daniel, please eat more. And today, there is wine too."
She poured two glasses of wine, the pale golden liquid swaying gently in the cups.
The two raised their glasses at the same time and lightly clinked them together in the air, producing a crisp sound.
"Mr. Daniel, happy wedding."
Kelly smiled, starlight flickering in her eyes.
"Mrs. Kelly, happy wedding."
Daniel’s voice was somewhat choked, and tears slid down his face despite himself.
...
Daniel was meticulously straightening the dark suit he wore.
It was a precious suit of armor Kelly had found at a secondhand stall and ironed flat overnight.
Even the slightest wrinkle had to be smoothed out by force, as though he were a knight polishing his armor before battle.
Kelly walked to his side and handed him the briefcase.
"It’s your first interview. Don’t be too nervous."
Kelly smiled, her eyes filled with warm and unwavering trust.
"You will always be the sharpest sword in my heart. May the stars crown your steps."
"My dear, just wait at home for my good news!"
Daniel bent down and kissed her forehead. Then he turned and stepped across the threshold.
Behind him was the earnest gaze of his beloved.
...
The company Daniel had applied to was called Nurentin International, one of the most powerful multinational conglomerates on the continent.
With his impressive academic background and outstanding abilities, he successfully obtained an employment contract.
As he walked out of the interview hall, he met the previous interviewee head-on.
She was an elite student who had returned from overseas. Her bearing was elegant, and every gesture carried an innate nobility, like the daughter of an aristocrat who had stepped out of an ancient painting.
"Good day. My name is Yvette Klein."
She extended her hand with a proper and generous smile.
"I heard you also passed the interview. From now on, we will be colleagues. Which department will you be joining, sir?"
Daniel said calmly,
"The Business Department."
"What a marvelous coincidence. So am I."
Yvette’s gaze lingered on his face for an extra moment before she extended her fair hand.
"I hope we can look after each other from now on. It will be a pleasure working with you."
Daniel glanced at her hand but did not take it. He merely bowed slightly.
"My apologies. I must return immediately to tell my wife this good news. Please forgive me."
Yvette watched Daniel’s departing back, an unusual light rising in her eyes.
He rejected me?
The corner of her mouth lifted slightly.
At this moment, the desire to conquer him quietly sprouted in her heart like wild grass.
"Daniel..."
She softly murmured his name.
