Chapter 263: Vampiress Checkup!
Chapter 263: Vampiress Checkup!
"Sleep well,"
Jax said after kissing Orianna’s forehead, watching as she shuffled and laid in the bed, becoming unmoving as she fell asleep once more, exhausted from their ravenous morning activities.
Jax reminded himself to allow her to use the Divine Luminous Pool once they had free time, and looked around, heading to the closet to get dressed and prepare to leave.
As he was dressing, he still looked at Orianna, admiring her alluring presence as he dressed.
Golden light filtered through the tall windows, slipping past the curtains in thin beams that stretched across the room and settled gently over the bed where she was sleeping, undisturbed by anything he was doing.
Finally, once he was done dressing, he came back to the bed and kissed her on the forehead one last time before heading out, the door to his chambers opening without a sound, and closing just as quietly behind him.
Outside, the Demon Kingdom was quiet, but that didn’t mean the Kingdom was still, far from it in fact.
Even now, beyond the thick stone walls and elegant corridors, the capital was alive. With his enhanced sensed, Jax noticed soldiers rotating through early drills, administrative divisions already exchanging reports, enchantment hubs pulsing with steady magical output.
However, he didn’t focus on that, his priority firmly on his personal business. The palace corridors greeted him immediately as he walked around, polished floors, flowing mana, servants already moving with purpose.
All of the servants were hurrying around, trying to finish their morning work as efficiently as possible, and the moment they saw Jax, all of them naturally stopped and bowed to him very respectfully.
"Your Majesty."
Jax walked forward without slowing, just giving them all a slight nod of acknowledgement for their work and a simple message, "Good morning, carry on with your work,"
All of the workers heard that and got back to work instantly, everything flowing naturally.
Meanwhile, Jax didn’t head outside, as his destination was clear.
The Demon King’s Office.
By the time he arrived, the doors were already open, and everything he needed was already prepared.
Inside was almost exactly as he had left it previously.
A central desk made of dark, refined material sat near the far end, layered with neatly organized documents and magical interfaces hovering just above its surface.
Maps lined the walls, some physical, others projected using magic, shifting faintly as real-time updates flowed through them.
These updates consisted of reports and logs from the various soldiers sent out on missions. Discussing topics such as movement patters of the Heroes, to territorial updates and much more.
Jax moved to his desk, picking up a glass of delicious tea that was placed on his desk, almost certainly prepared and left there by Serika, reminding himself to thank her later as he closed the door behind him.
"...Alright."
He took his seat and immediately began to work.
Time moved differently when Jax focused. With his strength, he could breeze through this with exceptional efficiency.
Reports were reviewed in seconds, completely understood down to the most minute of details. Patterns were analyzed and comprehended instantly, with detailed adjustments being made without any sort of hesitation.
His mind moved through it all effortlessly, absorbing information, discarding what wasn’t needed, refining what was.
Agricultural progress was stable and Sabrina’s projections were accurate. The first shipment of resources from the Faerie’s would arrive soon to boost their agricultural exploits even further.
As for the Military, everything was exactly as Jax wanted. Orianna hadn’t wasted time. Initial scouting units had already begun movement toward marked zones.
Casualty risk minimal but they had already gathered tons of valuable information.
Jax’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"...Not bad."
Next he checked on enchantment production. Lyla’s sector showed a noticeable spike in output as more resources were poured into them.
A faint smirk formed.
"Fast."
Exactly what he expected. Then Jax’s gaze shifted to check on the updates from the Vampire clan.
He leaned back slightly in his chair as he opened it, "...Nulissa."
It had been a while. Not long in absolute time, but long enough that he felt it was time to see her sometime soon.
The report itself was clean, as expected from a Clan lead by someone as caring and efficient as Nulissa. The Vampire’s operations were at this point, completely refined.
Various Vampires who entered the military had trained as reconnaissance units, and were already adapting to Orianna’s structure seamlessly.
There wasn’t any problems with blood distributions, and all the Vampires were able to feed rather efficiently, no fights over food ever becoming necessary.
Nulissa’s influence in all of this was obvious.
Jax exhaled slowly.
"...Still sharp."
But reports weren’t enough for him about someone like Nulissa. A faint smirk touched his lips. "...Yeah. It’s about time."
He raised his hand slightly and spoke. His voice didn’t need to carry through air. It moved through mana itself, direct and precise towards his target.
"Nulissa."
A momentary pause before he continued, "Come to my office."
Elsewhere in the capital, Within the Vampire District, the atmosphere was different, much cooler and quieter, refined in a way that contrasted the raw power of other clans.
Tall structures of dark stone and crimson glass reflected the morning light in muted tones. Movement here was controlled, deliberate, every step measured, every action purposeful.
At the center was a high chamber, dimly lit and elegant.
Nulissa stood near a wide window, her blood-red hair cascading down her back, catching the faint light like liquid flame.
Her crimson eyes were focused on a floating interface before her, scanning through reports with practiced ease.
"...Adjust the western sweep," she said calmly.
A subordinate nodded immediately.
"Yes, Lady Nulissa."
"Rotate the third unit. Their efficiency drops after extended exposure."
"Understood."
She didn’t look away. Everything around her moved as she dictated, but as she was doing all of this, Jax’s unmistakable voice echoed in her ear.
"Nulissa."
Her hand stilled, the interface flickered for half a second as she heard that comforting voice in her ear, waiting to hear what he said next.
Then, she heard his order, "...Come to my office."
Her crimson eyes narrowed slightly before a faint smile formed, "...Finally."
She dismissed the interface with a flick of her fingers.
"Continue as planned," she said calmly.
The subordinate straightened.
"Yes, my Lady."
Nulissa turned. Her expression composed, but her eyes were sharp and interested.
"...It’s been a while, Jax."
And without another word, Nulissa stepped forward. The shadows around her shifted, and swallowed her whole.
Back in the office, Jax remained seated, continuing to review the flow of the kingdom while waiting, because he knew she wouldn’t take long.
And sure enough, the shadows near the far wall stirred and then peeled back, and she stepped through.
Her crimson eyes locked onto him instantly.
"...You finally decided to call me."
Jax didn’t look up immediately. He finished the line he was reading, closed the report and then lifted his gaze, meeting her, a faint smirk formed.
"Miss me?"
Her lips curved slowly.
"...Always."
