Chapter 640: The Only Father
Chapter 640: The Only Father
Ash stood before the Father, his gaze fixed in stunned disbelief. For the first time in ages, the easy, relaxed mask he wore had shattered.
"What the fuck..." he muttered, the words escaping before he could reel them back.
The moment those words left his mouth, his Battle Style reacted to his intent.
Instantly.... everything froze.
Time itself came to a complete standstill.
The chaotic battlefield of the Primordial Expanse turned into a still image, as if someone had pressed pause on reality.
The colossal manifestations of Nonexistence — the towering horrors born from notions like The End of All and The Silence That Consumes Thought — hung motionless in the void.
Some were mid-lunge, their grotesque limbs stretched out toward where Ash had been. Others were frozen while being torn apart, their forms suspended in grotesque, broken shapes.
High above, light hung suspended, frozen in place like a captured photograph.
The vast rivers of pure white-gold divinity, each as immense as entire Realities and once fierce in battle, now appeared serene and breathtaking.
They sprawled across the infinite darkness like luminous veins, flooding the void with an overpowering brilliance.
The sky—or whatever passed for one in this shapeless realm—was no longer dark. It had been entirely transformed, as every trace of black erased beneath the radiance.
Colossal waves of golden divinity and shifting quantum light had consumed vast stretches of the Primordial Expanse, turning the void into a chaotic sea of white, gold, crimson, and deep blue.
At the center of it all stood Ash, facing the entity he had once known as the Father.
But now, it was obvious this being was no "Father" at all.
The shroud of perfect darkness had been stripped away, revealing what was hidden.
And there, before Ash, stood a figure that looked exactly like.... the Mother.
They shared the same elegant facial features, the same long, flowing hair, and the same slender, graceful frame.
Yet, while the Mother glowed with a gentle, radiant light, this figure was shrouded in an all-encompassing, devouring darkness.
Even now, with her true form exposed, thin tendrils of black still clung to her body like smoke, desperately trying to cover her — but they were burning away under the overwhelming multicolored light flooding the space.
At that moment, she stood frozen like everything around her, eyes wide with shock.
For the first time since her existence began, she was completely visible—utterly exposed.
All her life had been spent hidden away, cloaked in layers of absolute darkness, never once forced to face the light so directly, so overwhelmingly.
"Truly, what kind of plot twist is this shit?" Ash muttered as he truly did not expect this.
He avoided checking NovelGeek’s planning boards or reading ahead for precisely these reasons.
Even though he had the power and loved being able to know anything he wanted, he still despised spoilers.
So, he only used those abilities when he genuinely wanted to.
Now, however, he couldn’t figure out why this being would present herself as the "Father."
He knew the Mother’s appearance had never been hidden, nor had Minx’s.
And if this being looked exactly like the Mother, how had no one grown even the slightest bit suspicious?
As each time the trio had ever met or seen one another... it was only the Father who had remained concealed.
Ash tilted his head slightly as he looked at the being standing before him. With his evolved eyes and current state, peering into her mind required almost no effort.
In an instant, the answer became clear.
She had never once considered that her appearance was identical to the Mother’s — because she had never truly seen the Mother.
To her, the Mother had always appeared as nothing more than a radiant bundle of white light, just as she herself had always appeared to the Mother as a mass of absolute darkness.
The two of them had never once laid eyes on each other’s true forms.
Their interactions had always been filtered through layers of opposing concepts, making any physical resemblance completely irrelevant in their eyes.
Ash let out a quiet chuckle under his breath.
’Three women...’ he thought, a trace of dry amusement flickering across his face.
’The beginning of all things in this cosmology started with three women. How poetic.’
Snap!
He shook his head lightly, then snapped his fingers.
In that moment, the frozen time resumed.
The being — no longer hidden behind her shroud of darkness — suddenly felt the overwhelming pressure of the multicolored storm surrounding her.
Her eyes widened as she took an instinctive step back, her gaze darting around at the apocalyptic scene frozen moments ago.
The massive rivers of golden divinity, chains of chaos, and autonomous blades of void still hung in the air around them, though like everything else, they had stopped moving the instant time had paused.
More importantly, she could feel it.
Her concealment was gone.
For the first time in her existence, she stood with her true form visible to everything around her.
Her hollow eyes snapped to Ash, now filled with a mixture of shock, wariness, and something dangerously close to fear.
She took another half-step back before finally speaking, her voice low and tense.
"...Just who are you?"
Hearing her, Ash simply smiled.
If he was being honest, realizing this being was actually a woman definitely shifted his plans.
From the start, his intention in coming here was to accelerate the game between these two entities. But with the Father being a man and the Mother a woman, things obviously were intended to be different.
’Well, my plan was to just kill the Father and make the Mother my final harem addition...’ he mused, tilting his head slightly.
Now, though, the situation had changed, especially since he had no real grievance with the Father to begin with.
It was the Mother who had tried to use him, and his plan to kill the Father and take his place was more out of convenience than necessity.
’I suppose I could still take the Father’s place... but adding two more female doppelgangers to the Family?’
That wasn’t something he was particularly eager about
. Not that it was a real issue, but if he was being honest with himself again, Eve, Eliya, and the Mother already made three new women he’d acquired during his time here.
Adding a fourth—one who looked exactly like one of them—just felt pointless.
’Wait.... didn’t these beings talk about becoming one?’
