Chapter 317 - 316-
Chapter 317 - 316-
Unlike before where Grey had to withstand the overwhelming pressure on the steps, the feeling Grey got this time was different.
With a single step, he felt as if he had crossed an unknown amount of distance. At this instant, he was no longer standing on the singular seventh step with no way to advance or retreat, Grey was taking the next step.
The eighth step. And the moment he did, Grey suddenly felt as if he had returned from an incredibly long and ardous journey. At the same time, he saw the captain’s faint figure in front of him, and from the edge of his eye, he saw Roxanne behind him.
They looked to have never moved and were still in the same place. This was completely surreal and almost made Grey think he had imagined the whole thing.
If not for the feeling of the laws resonating with his body, and the golden piece of cloth in his hands, Grey would have indeed thought that this was the case.
But the moment that Grey realized he was back, he opened his mouth and shouted.
"Advance! I’ll withstand the pressure for us!" Immediately after speaking, Grey raised his other leg and took the next step.
The moment he did, he saw the captain’s illusory figure halt as if she was listening to his words. Her actions were then clearly filled with hesitation and slight confusion.
If Grey looked behind him, he would see that Roxanne had also paused and was in a state of confusion. As if considering whether the voice that spoke was really Grey and whether it was not an illusion.
However, after speaking once, Grey did not speak again. Right now, he had already wasted the span of three breaths of time speaking and telling the captain and Roxanne.
If they believed him, then they would, but if they didn’t in time, then Grey would have to advance first and think of a way to help them. Moreover, this was the one chance he had to advance in one go.
He had burned all his materials and resources for this chance. So much that the piece of cloth containing divinity was the only item he had left.
However, even though the array had long crumbled and dissipated, the enhancement of Spirit energy that it brought unto Grey still remained.
This was so because Grey had linked the conversion of spirit energy to himself through it. So unless the essence of the array completely dissipated, the piece of cloth containing divinity would indirectly continue to supply him with spirit energy.
But if this was another object, then Grey could be guaranteed it’s effects for a period of time. However, this was an item containing pure divinity. Moreso, it was the divine aura of a very high divine being.
As much as it was powerful, it was incredibly unstable when used with other materials. Hence, the time that Grey had that he was in control of the laws was very short.
In fact, they was probably only the span of a few dozen breaths before the divinity completely broke down the essence of the array and the talismans in them.
Grey had no way to know the exact time, but he was sure that it was extremely short. Hence, he did not bother to check if Roxanne or the Captain believed his words. His excuse was that there was really no time.
The captain, who had halted for a few moments, suddenly took a big step and arrived on the eleventh step. However, her body swayed a bit before gradually stabilizing.
The action of her body swaying was naturally not forced by the pressure in the steps. Instead, it happened because the captain was instinctively wary of the instruction sha had heard and she wanted to check if it as true or not.
But when she saw that no pressure fell upon her and it even seemed to have been stopped and been withheld by another force, she couldn’t help but inwardly sigh with relief.
Her shoulders that were tensed slowly relaxed. However, that relaxed expression did not last long on her face. She suddenly realized what Grey meant especially with his incredibly short words of instructions.
If it were another time, Grey would have at least hinted of something, but this time, he just stated the instruction hurriedly and kept quiet... as if he was in a haste.
It was only then that the captain realized that what Grey was doing to withstand the pressure for them could only be done for a short amount of time. After that, Grey probably wouldn’t be able to it again. This was in line with his very short words and his haste. Probably just talking had wasted some time already.
In short, this was their one chance of escaping and leaving the staircase going up to the top of the crystal palace.
The captain’s thought process happened incredibly quickly as she finished thinking about everything in the next second she used to take the twelvth step.
The full power of her cultivation was finally showing forth as she accelerated and crossed two steps in less than an instant.
The captain then followed her thought process and shouted in a clear and loud voice.
"Advance! There is no pressure for now!" Her voice was loud and reached all the way to Roxanne who was in the fourth step. Its only target was also Roxanne after all, she was the only one left and was also at the lowest steps.
If there was anyone that needed to be urged to move, it was Roxanne. However, the captain seemed to have underestimated the strength of Roxanne’s trust in Grey.
Even though she did not say it out loud, her previous actions had shone that the trust she had in him was very deep and could not be broken easily.
Hence, before the captain even finished speaking, Roxanne had already taken the next step in front of her. Her expression was indifferent and filled with coldness, but she hurridly took the next step and was prepared to take the next.
Her red robes fluttered at a very visible speed. Out of the three of them, Roxanne’s cultivation was the highest. With her cultivation being at the peak of Foundation Establishment and still rapidly improving, she was the true powerhouse among the three of them even if she did not say or display it.
By the time the captain finished speaking, she had already advanced and was now standing on the seventh step that Grey had been standing on not too long ago.
Her movement seemed to be like warping as her surroundings distorted due to the intense heat coming off from her.
With her awesome cultivation, she had crossed four steps at once. Ignoring the pressure just like both of them.
