Chapter 2768 - 2769: Elevator Platform
Bai Ruozhu was momentarily speechless and finally said after a long time: "Because all the Merfolk who try to enter via Xuan Gui die here, this place is only an entrance with no exit. The Merfolk’s minds can be controlled, but others won’t be affected; however, there’s no way out."
"What? Are we going to grow old and die here?" Fo Lanying anxiously scratched her head, messing up her neat bun into a bird’s nest.
"Lan Ying, don’t worry, I’m here with you, it’s the same anywhere, isn’t it?" Yuan Licheng’s comforting skills were really abysmal.
Fo Lanying glared at him, "Even with you here, I’d die of boredom. And what about Ruozhu and the others? Ruozhu still needs to meet her family and child."
After speaking, she regretted it and looked at Bai Ruozhu with some concern. Seeing Bai Ruozhu wasn’t too dejected, she breathed a huge sigh of relief.
The others remained silent, as solutions are devised by people.
"I think the memory of the ancestor of the Merfolk might be true, but it can’t be fully trusted because Xuan Gui might have deceived her." Bai Ruozhu said, "For instance, maybe Xuan Gui wanted her to suffer, hence saying there’s no way out, but deep inside, Xuan Gui still loved her and might have secretly left an exit."
"Yes, that’s possible." Ning Yu nodded.
He understood the true feelings of loving someone, and although Xuan Gui’s personality was different from his, anyone truly in love would be reluctant to cause harm.
"Could the exit be near the female Merfolk?" Ning Yu asked.
Bai Ruozhu shook her head, "Think about it, if there’s no entrance to the top, how does Xuan Gui go talk to the female Merfolk and say those provocative words? There’s surely some hidden passage to the top in the Main Hall."
"Could Xuan Gui’s body be so massive that it can reach the top directly?" Fo Lanying asked.
"If the height is that much, the width should be very large, and all these pillars would be crushed by him." Bai Ruozhu said.
Fo Lanying patted her head, "I even went to the Intelligence Hall, can’t believe I didn’t think of this. It’s so embarrassing."
"Let’s search again, perhaps we’ll find something new." Bai Ruozhu suggested.
At this moment, Jiang Yichun awakened, unable to hear what the others were saying and unaware of the situation, he looked ahead somewhat confused.
Suddenly, he stood up, striding towards a giant pillar and started tapping on it.
He tapped one spot and shifted to tap other places; Bai Ruozhu suddenly realized and joyfully told everyone: "When Song Yi caught Achun’s mother, he hid her in the Liangzhu of the Empress Shangzi’s Main Hall; we almost didn’t find her. Come on, each of us pick a pillar and tap on it carefully."
Indeed, they hadn’t searched that thoroughly before.
So, each took a pillar, tapping away foolishly, and because everyone was tapping, the sounds were a bit mixed, so they pressed their ears against the pillars.
At that moment, a group of spiders passed by outside, cleaning once more, but they didn’t enter this Main Hall.
Fo Lanying thought of catching spiders but prioritized the crucial task, continuing to tap on the pillars.
Two hours later, Tang Feng suddenly shouted, "This one’s hollow!"
Bai Ruozhu rushed over, reached out to try, then spoke to Fo Lanying and Yuan Licheng: "See if there are any mechanisms or arrays."
The two went up to examine, and Fo Lanying took out a mechanical puppet to assist, soon inserting a golden needle into a very fine crack, followed by a series of clicking sounds, and the pillar opened up, revealing a mechanical control panel.
"This should be the unlocking mechanism, but it requires the correct method to open." Fo Lanying pointed at the engraved heavenly stems and earthly branches, feeling rather worried.
"Let me try, one by one." Bai Ruozhu approached.
It was designed as a large circle covering a smaller one; you had to turn the large disk according to the heavenly stems and the small disk as per the earthly branches. If it doesn’t match, it won’t open.
It’s like a bank password being a birth date; the possibilities are endless.
Bai Ruozhu, with her good memory, tried them one by one. Fortunately, there would be no adverse reaction if it was wrong.
Half an hour later, her forehead had beads of sweat, and Fo Lanying by her side was counting fingers till dizzy, "Which one are you at now?"
"Tried them all, none are correct." Bai Ruozhu said.
"Could anything be overlooked?" Ning Yu asked.
Bai Ruozhu shook her head, "Keep trying, it might be somewhere between two scales."
This increased the difficulty; after two hours, Bai Ruozhu still couldn’t finish trying them all.
Fo Lanying’s eyes glittered with gold, "Ruozhu, you absolutely belong in the Intelligence Hall."
Tang Feng gave her a look, "Don’t distract her."
Suddenly, with a series of clicking sounds, a circular platform slowly rose, and this platform was the one they had previously laid on to gaze at the azure ’sky.’
Ling Chen was still sleeping there, and the platform lifted her up.
This shocked Ling Chen awake, realizing she was nearly two meters above the ground, frightened, she jumped off the platform instantly.
Little did she know, Bai Ruozhu and the others dashed over one by one and jumped onto the platform.
"Ling Chen, quick, get up here!" Bai Ruozhu shouted.
Ling Chen didn’t dare look at others but did steal a quick glance at her, despite not hearing a word, she understood from mouth movements.
Though the platform rose too high, she couldn’t get on, so she jumped as high as she could, clinging to the stone pillar supporting the platform like a sloth.
Bai Ruozhu hurriedly dropped a rope, pulling her up.
The crowd gasped for breath, finally finding a way.
Bai Ruozhu wiped the sweat from her forehead, feeling a throbbing pain in her temples, having overused her mind.
A pair of hands reached over, gently massaging her temples. Bai Ruozhu looked up, meeting a pair of pitch-black eyes.
Although Jiang Yichun’s hearing was sealed, he still observed her every move, understanding her hard work.
The platform steadily ascended further, reaching the seemingly transparent barrier, continuing to rise, as a group was sent up, finally unveiling the Azure Realm.
Bai Ruozhu suddenly grew nervous, the female Merfolk was the ancestor of the Merfolk and also Achun’s ancestor. What would the encounter be like?
At that moment, the singing resumed, louder and closer than before, stopping the platform; Bai Ruozhu led Jiang Yichun down the platform, following the source of the song.
Suddenly, Jiang Yichun wiped his eyes, "Why am I crying? Uncontrollable tears."
Bai Ruozhu mouthed to him: It’s your ancestor, she’s in great pain.
Jiang Yichun wasn’t clear about the situation, but tears kept falling, bothering him; the tears shed in ten years didn’t even match this moment.
He rubbed his eyes hard, "I can’t hear anymore, why am I crying?"
Bai Ruozhu dared not unseal his acupoint, fearing he would be controlled again, only wiping his tears with a cloth.
Suddenly, Jiang Yichun clutched his heart and painfully collapsed...
