Chapter 1707 Max's Turn!
Chapter 1707 Max's Turn!
One human swordsman fought through nine consecutive battles and finally achieved his ninth victory. The moment he won, loud cheers erupted from the human spectators throughout the Combat Hall because everyone knew he was only one battle away from obtaining the one-million-Killing-Point reward.
Even the swordsman himself appeared excited as he stood proudly within the arena while countless people watched him.
Then Karo stood up.
The cheers immediately died.
The smiles on the faces of many humans disappeared.
A heavy silence spread throughout the surrounding area.
Without saying a single word, Karo calmly walked toward the arena and accepted the challenge.
The battle began.
Three minutes later, it ended.
The swordsman, who had fought through nine difficult battles to reach that point, was killed while Karo stood above him completely unharmed. The accumulated Killing Points instantly transferred to Karo, and the giant demon simply turned around and left without even glancing at his defeated opponent. There was no celebration. No excitement. No arrogance.
To Karo, this appeared to be nothing more than routine.
A simple task he had repeated so many times that it no longer held any meaning.
Watching this scene unfold before his eyes, Max finally understood the extent of the problem within Starfall Haven. This was not merely a strong demon defeating weaker opponents. This was systematic suppression.
Karo was deliberately allowing humans to accumulate Killing Points before taking everything away from them at the last moment, ensuring that no human participant could successfully complete the Ten Consecutive Victory Trial while simultaneously enriching himself through their efforts.
Meanwhile, all around Max, countless human participants watched with expressions filled with anger, helplessness, and frustration. Some openly glared at Karo while others avoided looking at him altogether. Yet despite those emotions, nobody stepped forward to challenge him directly.
The reason was simple.
They were afraid.
Not because of Karo's status as the son of a Star Lord.
But because of his strength.
And judging from everything Max had seen so far, that fear was not entirely unjustified.
Max continued observing the battles taking place throughout the Combat Hall while occasionally watching Karo, who remained seated in a distant section of the hall like a patient predator waiting for prey to wander into his grasp.
It was at that moment that a beam of golden light descended from above and landed directly upon Nick.
Immediately afterward, a notification appeared above his head.
His turn had arrived.
Nick looked toward the arena assigned to him and slowly exhaled before turning toward Max with a smile. "Looks like it is finally my turn. I will go and see how far I can get. If I am lucky enough to reach the ninth battle, perhaps I will even get the chance to fight Karo myself."
Although he appeared relaxed, Max could easily tell that Nick was not nearly as confident as he pretended to be.
Before Nick could leave, however, Max suddenly spoke.
"Withdraw from the trial."
Nick froze.
For a moment, he simply stared at Max.
Then he frowned slightly and said, "Withdraw? The penalty for abandoning the trial is one thousand Killing Points. That is not exactly a small amount."
Max's expression remained completely calm as he replied, "One thousand Killing Points is insignificant compared to what you stand to lose. Let me handle Karo. There is no reason for you to throw away all the points you might accumulate during the trial only to have them taken by him in the end."
Nick fell silent afterward.
His gaze instinctively shifted toward the distant figure of Karo, who was currently watching the arenas with the confidence of someone who considered the entire Combat Hall his personal territory.
For several moments, Nick said nothing.
Eventually, he released a long sigh and shook his head helplessly. "Honestly, I do not like this idea at all. Every warrior hates retreating before a battle, especially one that has not even begun yet. However, the more I think about it, the more I realize you are right. Losing one thousand Killing Points is unpleasant, but it is still far better than fighting my way through multiple battles, accumulating tens or even hundreds of thousands of Killing Points, and then handing everything over to Karo at the very end. Compared to that outcome, sacrificing one thousand Killing Points almost feels cheap."
A bitter smile appeared on his face afterward.
Then he looked at Max once more and said, "Fine. I will trust your judgment this time."
With that, Nick headed toward one of the Combat Hall officials and submitted a request to withdraw from the Ten Consecutive Victory Trial.
A few moments later, a notification appeared above him.
[Participant Nick Has Withdrawn From The Ten Consecutive Victory Trial.]
[1,000 Killing Points Deducted.]
Seeing the notification, Nick shook his head once more before returning to Max's side.
Meanwhile, Max's gaze slowly drifted toward Karo again.
The giant demon remained completely unaware that someone had just stepped aside because another person intended to deal with him personally.
A faint smile slowly appeared across Max's face.
Soon enough—
Karo would finally become his problem.
After Nick withdrew from the trial, several other participants went to the arena before finally Max turn came.
A brilliant pillar of golden light descended from high above and landed directly upon Max.
The moment the golden beam appeared, countless eyes within the surrounding area instinctively shifted toward its target.
Participants waiting for their turns, spectators watching the battles, and even some individuals currently fighting in nearby arenas briefly glanced toward the source of the light.
Since everyone present knew what the golden beam represented, they immediately understood that another participant had finally been selected to begin their challenge.
Meanwhile, Max calmly looked upward as the golden light enveloped his entire body.
Several notifications immediately appeared before his eyes.
[Participant Max Morgan]
[Your Turn Has Arrived.]
[Please Proceed To Arena Number 7.]
[Ten Consecutive Victory Trial Beginning.]
[Failure To Arrive Within Five Minutes Will Be Considered A Withdrawal.]
The moment Max read the notifications, a faint smile appeared across his face. He had already spent enough time observing the Combat Hall and learning about its rules.
Now it was finally his turn to step onto the stage and begin earning the Killing Points he needed. More importantly, this would also allow him to personally witness the methods Karo used to suppress the human participants within Starfall Haven.
