Well, I feel bad because I got a new delivery at my house the other day and this post was going to be a series of pictures with my newest addition, but I had family come over and completely derail my plans! So, it’s turned into a bit of a misc. post again.

Without further ado, here are some things I like this week…

1. Family! As much as I gripe that I lost time to take naughty pics, I’m really quite glad I got to spend time with yet more family these past few days. I love my extended family, and getting to sit around the dinner table, gather in the kitchen, or sprawl lazily in the backyard with them is a joy.

2. Toys! I’m seriously excited about my newest addition. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but I can’t wait to set up some scenes with him! Okay, well, I’ll give you a hint. You can’t see me right now, but I’m humming “Tale as Old as Time…”

3. Stampede! The other reason I can’t do pictures is that I’m away all day today at the Calgary Stampede! Ten magical days where the entire city dons their cowboy hats and boots. Seriously, even the cops… How’s this for an image?

I know I usually write five things, but I’m all hot and bothered by the hot cowboys, so I’ll leave it at that. Actually, speaking of hot cowboys, how about I share with you the cover for Gay for Cowboy, which will be released later this month? For those of you who remember Rodeo Queen, the basis for this story, Gay for Cowboy features quite a lot of rodeo action, so I’m doubly excited to head on down to the Stampede grounds today. Thank you to the lovely and talented Steena Holmes for this hot goodness!

And that’s it for me! Have a great week, everyone!

You know, clmorris, I may just have to write something combining Beauty and cowboys… LOL! Thanks! Steena did a marvelous job on that cover. Loving it :)

Z, Stampede is like the ultimate rodeo! It lasts ten days and is kicked off by a huge parade. There’s a $2 million purse that is given out so you know you’re getting the best of the best in bronc and bullriders, ropers, steer riders, barrel racers, etc. There’s also musical acts every night, on three separate stages on the grounds. One stage is always country music, but there’s one that showcases more alternative music and is pretty popular. The main stage is where we get our headliners, and Garth Brooks is here this year!

A midway and carnival provide fun and games and all sorts of food are served. There are also numerous agricultural events, similar to what you’d see at any rodeo, tractor pulls, heavy horse competitions, blacksmith competitions, as well as a agricultural building where you can go in and see all the animals (horses, cows, pigs, sheep, etc.) that are being shown. The Budweiser Clydes always show up!!

Finally there’s an art gallery/exhibit where you can purchase western-style artwork and there’s a huge indoor fair where you can purchase all those little made-for-TV gadgets and products along with jewelry, clothing, food and more!

In ten days, about a million people pass through the Stampede gates each year! This year is the celebration of 100 years of the Stampede, it was started in 1912, and the crowds are definitely big! A whopping 184,483 people passed through the turnstiles on Sunday, the day I decided to go down LOL! We’re at the halfway point and already there have been 570,698 people that have enjoyed Stampede.

Sorry, don’t get me started on this LOL! The whole city practically shuts down for ten days. There are free pancake breakfasts every day somewhere in the city (I’ve been to three so far! ) and everywhere you turn you see cowboy hats, plaid shirts, denim and cowboy boots!

Never been to a rodeo but this one sounds pretty cool! (i would be very curious to see what the crowd looks like at the alternative music stage…)

ohhhhh mutton busting… do they do that???? where little kids ride sheep? i read an article once (on a plane…) about it… it looked adorable (at least for the kid).

    hugs, z.
