Okay, so I was gonna post something writing related. Like maybe about my NaNoWriMo project (the Dragon’s Kiss sequel, Shenandoah which I’m still working on, urgh). But then I got distracted by…
THIS!!!

Dear sweet FSM, what a thing. A friend of mine who is a professor at Chapel Hill took this picture. She swears it’s a tiny thing. I sure hope so, because man, look at those TEETH O_O
Most of the people I know did not like this little guy. One of my friends suggested that we should (direct quote here) “KILL IT WITH FIRE!” Me, I thought it was pretty much the coolest thing ever. I don’t know what it is, exactly — neither does anyone else I know, so if any of you guys do, please speak up — but yeah. Very cool.

Here are some more cool Things That Crawl *g*

Speck This beautiful creature here is (I think I’m getting this right) a Venezuelan Greenbottle Blue Tarantula. I saw these on Animal Planet and fell in love. What a gorgeous spider! I mean seriously, the blue looks positively iridescent in the sunlight.
**swoon**
This particular one is somebody’s pet; his picture was posted online. His name, apparently, is Speck. Awwwww <3
tarantula hawk Okay, this doesn’t crawl so much as divebomb your house fly. I like the curly antennae. And the orange wings. In fact, let’s face it, this is a lovely bug. But I do not ever ever EVER want this thing flying through my window. I will get out the shotgun and destroy its ultimate-evil ass.

Sorry if I squicked anyone. I looooove spiders, heh, and am fascinated by bee-type-things even as I hide from them :)

BTW, I always want to know about any particularly rare or cool spiders. Hint, hint…

    EWWWWW!

Let me just say that you and I have VERY different tastes on what is cool. That first bug is just way too freaky and scary. The spider is better, but no way would I ever hold it or want it near me. And the last thing is just too freaking big.

How is it that you think the first thing is cool, but the last thing you’d get out a shotgun for?

    Ugh, gotta change the webpage!

    :)

You are a sick sick woman. I have some fire for ya, or for your friend, whoever wants to take care of them. There are advantages to living in the great white north. Our warm weather never lasts long enough to allow anything with that many legs to grow that big. *shudder*

Heh. What can I say, I like spiders *g* I think the piranha spider guy (my friend Natalie’s name for the little dude with the wicked teeth) looks like a blueberry. Only with eight legs and biiiiig teeth.

Danni, I learned in my reading that the Venezuelan Blue is rather temperamental and doesn’t like being held, so he’s on the same page as you there *g*
As far as the tarantula hawk — that’s the FREAKIN’ HUGE wasp in the last picture — that one gets the shotgun because if it flies in my house, it will sting me! Besides, that sucker eats tarantulas.

Let me say that again, because it bears repeating. That wasp EATS. TARANTULAS.
    **shudder**
