It’s finally happened.
I, who go so far as to bring a notebook to bed in case an idea should occur to me then, have actually decided to take a few days off. I didn’t do that when I had the flu or my appendix was removed (then, whenever I was awake, I crawled to the laptop and wrote). What happened this time?
Costochondritis. Or, in non-doctor-speak, the lower rib on my left side has been nudged out of place.
Usually when something happens, I tell myself it’s research for a future story and just take notes. Now, I’m not taking notes. I just curl up with the heating pad and watch reruns of Friday the 13th: the series.
On the bright side, I’ll be going to see a chiropractor tomorrow. I’m hoping he’ll push the rib back into place. Until then, I’ll be exorcising my writing abilities trying to explain how the hell this happened.
The truth? Apparently I slept wrong.
Whenever I tell anyone that, they just look at me like I’m hiding something. I’ve finally just given up and taken to telling them that it happened while I was out one night, fighting vampires.
The conversation that ensues goes like this:
them: ah. Did you win?
me: yes.
them: that’s good. Was this research for a future story?
me: (sighing inwardly, and then regretting it when pain spikes in my side) yes.

Thanks. I’m happy to report the chiropractor was able to help me, and now I’m back to obsessing about the writing :)
