I like me some BDSM porn. Nothing bloody or anything, you know, but the bondage stuff, a little spanking, that kind of thing. I like to read some of it too, as long as it’s one of those “one hand” stories. BUT. I’ve never really gotten into BDSM in a romance. And I’m not talking about playing around, I’m talking about the whole BDSM full-time lifestyle, with the Dom dishing out the ouchies and the sub taking it. It always kind of puzzled me that I felt that way. I mean, if I can like it in porn, why don’t I like it romance? Well, I think I finally figured it out.
I can’t reconcile the full time, hardcore BDSM lifestyle with love.
Now, I know that’s ridiculous. I know people who are IN committed D/s relationships (with or without the S&M part) that are full of love and trust. My weird little brain just can’t connect domination and submission or pain with love, probably because it’s not something I understand on a personal level. I can’t feel an emotional connection to a BDSM romance. And if I am not engaged emotionally, I can’t enjoy it. A little play here and there is no problem for me, I just can’t get into the full time thing.
So, there’s my take on why the BDSM romance isn’t my thing. Guess I’ll just stick with the porn *g*

What was that clanking sound? Oh, my goodness.
Lol!
I can relate. I think it may have something to do with being the type who does not take orders well. Hell, there are days when I don’t even want suggestions about what I should or shouldn’t do let alone an outright order. *g*

Kimber, if you were to go the kinky route, I’d totally see you as the Dom. You’d look way hot in a leather corset and high-heeled boots and carrying a whip O_O

Ally,
FWIW, you’re not the only one who feels that way. I don’t “get it” either. Like my high school English teacher always said, “To each his own; that’s why we have chocolate, vanilla and strawberry”.
