One of my (many) current projects is a story called One For The Team. Now, this story actually predates my first published book, Dark Elves I: Taken. OFTT was mostly written back before I knew all that much about ebooks and when I thought I was a purely het author **snort**. This was back when I was reading Secrets and Harlequin Blaze and thinking that’s where my writing future lay.
OFTT is about 2/3 done and I’ve been aware of that for the past 3 years or so, so when I was thinking up what to do for Loose Id in the near future, I proposed that one as something different. Contemporary, no fantasy or paranormal aspects, just a girl and her five male best friends and the sex that crops up between them. **cough** ok, maybe there’s a little fantasy, but, hey, it’s me, right?
Anyway, I’ve been rereading it. The story’s not bad, imho. Not terribly deep, a bit of a light romp if you ask me. Actually, it’s a little better than I remember it. And I’d finished more than I’d remembered too. The craft however… not as good. Oh, it’s not horrible. It’s readable. But I’m looking at a lot of it and seeing where there’s definite room for improvement. Word choice, scene choice, character choices. On the pro side, I discovered that my character thing is still intact. I, personally, was drawn right back into these people’s lives and I knew them again, which was a relief. I found my dialogue wasn’t maybe as good back then, but the fact that it pretty much birthed the story remains true.
So, I’m pruning. I’m picking. I’m revising. It’s an interesting (if tediuos) process for me to edit myself from back then. A little over three years isn’t that long, but I’ve realized that I’ve learned quite a bit in that little stretch of time.
I look forward to learning even more in the years to come.
Geez, what’ll it be like when I finally get back to the epic fantasy book I wrote 12 years ago?! O_O

I think it might be very interesting to read both this story and the epic fantasy :)

Good luck with the book Jet, probably something I wouldn’t read. But it must be tough getting back into something you did so long back!

Maura, well I don’t know when the epic fantasy’s going to make it back on my plate, but this one should surface soon
Lidyah, Wouldn’t read because of the girl cooties? :) That’s ok, I understand lol
It is weird, but I’ll keep at it. I signed a contract, after all :)

LOL! Probably, yes. Is it a menage story? If so then that would be a big no-no. I don’t do menages, lol.
