Once upon a time, there was this girl who lived in a castle in the middle of a kingdom….

No, scratch that. There was this girl who was sitting in front of her computer in an apartment on the fifth floor. She had short brown hair and big brown eyes and…

Well, hell, why’s she a girl? That’s no fun. Okay, once upon atime there was this cute little boy with an amazing dimple when he smiled that everyone who saw it wanted to lick. This included Sir Geoffrey, a knight of someone-or-other’s table…

Hmmm…. “little boy” is probably the wrong thing to say. Okay, different angle. Sir Geoffrey watched Sir Arnold’s young squire approach. He rememebered the boy being a mere child, but the person who strode with modest confidence across the flagstones was no child, despite the sunny gold curls about his hair and the dimple just over the right edge of his mouth as he gave the ladies an engaging smile. A dimple Geoffrey found he very much wanted to explore with his tongue…

Hmmm, when did the brunette become a blond? <shrug> oh well….

…. Arnold appeared and slung one beefy arm about the slight young man’s shoulders and Geoffrey saw red, imagining the things that ox might have done to the delicate beauty of the young man. Clearly, it was Geoffrey’s duty to rescue the young man.

…..

Hey, that’s no bad for just off the top of my head, huh? Okay, some of it wouldn’t fly in a final story, but it’s a good start. And, by the way, no, I don’t have any immediate plans to write that story. Although, I’m serious, it could be a good start.

No, I wrote that to illustrate what happens to me when I come up with a new idea. This one was a bit too structured, to be honest. I actually started at the start. That’s not all that common. Oh, the ideas usually start when hero(ine) A meets hero(ine) B (yes, I’ve had f/f ideas), but that’s not always a great place to start the story. Many times, my initial meeting ideas get buried in backstory that only I know.

To make things more ridiculous, such ideas usually occur to me as I’m falling asleep at night or waking up in the morning. Oh, it’ll happen during the day often too, but almost every night I’m thinking of some story. Or, more commonly, many. It’s a chaotic place, my mind, but rarely lonely.

I know I’m onto something, though, if they get together and I’m anticipating what happens next. Whether it be sex, a fight, a flirtation or something else, if I want to think it through, the story has possibilities. If I could care less, we go back to “once upon a time”.

LOL – my story creation seems a lot like yours! Mine often happen on the way to work, stewing over an annoying co-worker and plotting his demise.

I had something similar happen to me in my little story. Saw a great picture/image. Began writing the scene straight from the picture then the scene got rougher and rougher. I wanted my character to be aggressive, but he is submitting to everyone who looks sideways at him.

I had decided logically what I wanted to transpire, but the road to these goals are becoming shocking to me. Or I should say that I feel like I am losing control over the storyline to my characters. I had stopped writing because I feel like I am cheating if I plan a scene. But I feel like I will not get the end of the story unless I write something for the characters to disagree on. I am flummoxed.
