I’ve got five weeks to finish the Half Lives revision. Right now the story is good; when I’m done, it will be brilliant.
Between now and then, though, it’s going to suck.
Revision is an interesting process. Some writers hate writing and love revising; others love writing and hate revising. Me, I fall into the later category. Give me an empty page and a black Pilot G-2 pen and I’m happy. If there’s text on that page, though, I’m going to need a mocha.
With HL, that’s six hundred and seventy pages worth of mochas.
The novel is worth the time, though. I’m normally shy about my own work, but I believe in this story. Right now, only one thing stands between publication and this epic tale of reborn mages and their fight against an ancient sentient evil: me finishing its revision.

Wow, that’s a lot of mochas. Lol!
I love when you talk about your revision process. Just yesterday I went back and reread your prior post on the soul of a scene and it helped me tremendously with a scene that was giving me trouble. I followed your advice and wrote out all the important things I knew about the scene as well as what the characters knew. Then I made a list of what the scene needed to accomplish and while I was doing that, voila, something brand new popped out and solved my dilemma and I was able to revise the scene.
You totally rock!
