I didn’t start out writing the manlove.

Oh, I guess the signs were there. My first series of books, the Dark Elves series, had hints. OK, more than hints. The elves are a race where only male children are born and they have to kidnap and convert human women to procreate. So, from the very beginning, I knew homosexuality and bisexuality were just a part of their lives. Nothing that bothers them because that’s just the way things are. Plus, they’re highly sexed creatures. I couldn’t imagine all those boys growing up with no girls around and not getting their rocks off with each other. DE1 has one brief m/m blow job and DE3 admits to a relationship between the two male leads, although all of the threesome scenes were strictly m/f/m.

Why did I back off? Well, I didn’t, actually. At the time, writing m/m was beyond my comfort level. Plus I was new at all this writing biz. (*snort* yeah, like I’m such an old timer now LOL)

With my second series, Leashed, I got a little bolder. At least in my eyes. Just for the record, that story didn’t start off m/m/f. It didn’t even start off as a threesome. Meg and Michael were the original characters. Rudy was going to be an upstart who came along later as a rival. Ha! That story sure changed. I might even go back to that story someday, since what actually came out for Leashed turned out to be completely different. But see, I got Michael and Rudy together and Rudy just kind of… well, really, he came on to Michael. He pushed it. I know some writers say that their characters rule things. Well, I’m one of them. In this case, it’s absolutely true. That story changed because Rudy changed it. Michael was originally your typical alpha male werewolf before this cute little wolf came along. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not remotely sorry that the story changed. I’m having great fun in the Leashed world and I’ve got tons to explore there.

So then I got to Snagged, which is obviously when I just gave up and gave into the manlove. Snagged was written because a good friend said “you can do this” and she proceeded to explain how. I had already given up the ghost to avoiding anime and had discovered bishonen and yaoi. There was no turning back.

Thus, I see the Heaven Sent series, as the culmination of the above. My tribute to yaoi and manlove. Also my most detailed series to date, I think.

So where was I going with this? Oh yes. So now, I’m back to writing the next Dark Elves book. And you know what? It wants to be m/m!!! Well, not completely, but those elements that I happily skipped over before are bringing themselves to the fore. The m/m is making itself part of the story, which means I can’t gloss over it. And I don’t really want to. It’s just that I hadn’t expected it. I’d always thought of the Dark Elves as my m/f series.

So yeah, I’ve come full circle. It’s now rough for me to not see the m/m potential in my stories. I had to beat it back in Fox and Dragon, although that was mainly because I didn’t want to change the story. It was easy for Bye, Bye Skyler, but that story was actually written pre-Dark Elves so it doesn’t really count.

Makes me wonder if the wheel’s planning to keep turning and take me back the other way? Doesn’t seem to be, but then, a few years ago I would have thought you were nuts if you were to tell me that people would be enjoying my stories about homosexual love.

Enjoying it too much. Waiting and waiting for the next story:
    Jet Mykles: Faith, Sanagged 2
Ally Blue: Where is Rick? ABCPI
JL Langley: Remi & Jake, MCabe’sa & Battered Hearts
    LM Prieto: Prior
L Baumbach: Out there and more of Justin and Bram, a cousin may be?
Willa Okati: Just bought her first story, won’t bug her for now.

Isn’t it torture against the law? Can we readers do something against this conspiracy? Uh? Oh, yes, we can wait. Patience is a virtue.

Sorry in advance for any typographical errors.

    Sincerly,
    Ana
