Shameless Thievery

That Prieto chick had an awesome idea when she suggested J.L. blog about her current work in progress. So, seeing as how I have to go to the Evil Day Job in a bit and don’t really have time for my slow brain to come up with something worth reading in a blog, I am stealing the aforementioned awesome idea.

That’s right. Stealing it. I’m not proud.

And now, a bit about my own WIP, Untamed Heart.

This is one of those stories that sort of came out of the blue, from an unexpected source. The family and I were watching Man Vs Wild, one of my very favorite shows. On this episode, the delightfully crazy (and very hot) Bear Grylls had stranded himself in the wilds of Alaska. The forest, once he got himself off the glacier he landed on, was stunning. Green, lush, and beautiful, with those gorgeous snowy Alaskan peaks in the background. My brain said, “YOU GOTTA SET A STORY THERE!”

So I had the setting. And one of the main characters, Leon Fisher, inspired (of course) by Bear, who fascinates me to an unhealthy degree. I mean, what kind of nutjob jumps out of a perfectly good airplane onto a glacier?!?!? Come on. I LOVE him *g* So there you go, I now have a book set in the Alaskan wilderness, with a main character loosely based on Bear Grylls (very loosely; you’ll see…). Now I need a man for him to find and fall for.

Enter Patrick Wolf, a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from England. He has this boyish-yet-sexual aura which totally clicked with me for the other character. Though I think the main thing which inspired me about him was his wardrobe. I mean you see in the pic I linked how he dresses sometimes LOL. I liked the Lost Boy look he created, it seemed to fit into a primitive setting such as I have in Untamed Heart.

And, there you have it. This is how the latest angst-fest (and trust me, this will be the granddaddy of all angst-fests) came about. Right now, I’ve started writing the prologue and am getting into the mind of my POV character, Leon. It’s kind of a scary place to be O_O
