Pretty, pretty, pretty men. Mmmm. I love ‘em. Give me a guy with a long, toned body, sparse-to-nil body fur, shining hair, big liquid eyes and a wide, kissable mouth and I’m happy. Even if I can’t touch him *looks around for the SO* I’m happy. I can’t help it. I like ‘em that way.

Don’t get me wrong. I can appreciate a big burly man with lots of muscles, lots of hair and a rugged look. The construction worker / lumberjack look isn’t lost on me, oh no. I get the attraction and I get the sexiness of it. But it’s just not my normal thing. A pretty man will turn my head instinctively. Give me elves over fighters, mages over paladins, wirey, wiley thieves over burly, virtuous knights. If you do give me a knight, make him a bard with a penchant for wearing his hair long. Or, better yet, give me the squire who’s still growing into the whole knight thing. Oh yeah!

It has always been this way for me. In my opinion, the most attractive man that I’ve ever seen is John Taylor of Duran Duran from when he was about 18 to when he was about 25 (early ’80s). That is not to say that he’s not still attractive. He is. But during that time of his life, he was the perfect example of my ideal. He had it down, from the look to the attitude to the voice to the profession. Even the ever changing hair colors and colorful clothing choices fit! The others in the band were pretty darn close as well. There’s something about the tall, slim look, the perfect, sharp features and a devilish smile that just makes me go *guh*! Now, of course, there’s a chicken and egg thing going on here. I discovered Duran Duran in my early teens when my young, impressionable mind was still deciding what was attractive. So did I see him and mold my mind around the image or was the look my thing and he just happened to fit the bill. I’ve mulled it over for the past twenty odd years and haven’t bothered to reach a conclusion. *g*

Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp are other examples of men who don’t fail to turn my head (PoTC anyone? Oh yeah, I’m SO very, very there!). David Duchovney from the early X-Files. Also, very happily, my SO falls neatly into this category (although he’d probably have issues with being called “pretty”). When I discovered yaoi, I was a happy camper because just about every yaoi boy fits the bill. Hell, just extend that to anime/manga period. I’m with the Japanese on that particular look. Yum!

So it’s no wonder I write what I write. I think Michael from the Leashed series is my most buff hero and he’s still got the svelte, feline thing going on. Okay, a lot of the elves are big and muscular, but then they’re elves so they’ve got that, well, elf thing going. And I think that’s okay. That’s what I like, so that’s what I write. Other authors like other looks so they’re much better at writing it.

So, how about you? What’s your type?

My Favorite Types are men like Gerald Butler (300, PofOpera, Tomb Raider), Brendan Frasier, Hugh Jackman. There were so many good ones in Lord of the Rings…I wouldn’t want to pick just one, but Orlando Bloom is my wallpaper on my IPAQ.

I’d say I’m the opposite, I like the big burly, lumberjack type, but pretty boys aren’t lost on me. And, as most people know about me, I’m quite fond of the Latino or Native American men. Give me a dark tan and black hair and….well, YUM!

You already know this, Jet, but Ally loooooooves the pretty boys. Yes, oh yes. Not that anyone could tell from my books or anything.

Now excuse me while I go back to fondling my Heaven and Purgatory bookmarks…
