- You have a whole novel of Angst, Sex, and Happily Ever After written in your head starring those two adorable barrista-boys at Starbucks.
- You’re convinced that every “straight” guy secretly wants to be the meat in a great big gay sex sandwich.
- You have Fisting Central and Gaydemon bookmarked under “research”. And you’re serious.
- You have used said helpful and informative websites (and others which shall remain nameless) within the last month for actual research purposes.
- You’ve been out of 8th grade for decades, yet every time you hear the words “crack” or “balls” you get a fit of the giggles.
- Due to the above, your husband is now convinced he is married to a 14-year-old boy.
- You wonder yourself, sometimes.
So, for my fellow authors of hot manly lovin’ out there, how did you first discover your inner Manlove Writer? Or if you’re a reader, what made you realize you were hopelessly addicted to tales of men in lust and love? Don’t be shy, add your experiences to the list!

I discovered fanfiction, I never knew it existed before and when I found it -reading Severus Snape shagging Lucius Malfoy senseless - I thought I was perverted. Then I sat there and thought about it, what is every man’s fantasy? Two women in bed together! So after that it wasn’t pervie at all.
Never looked back!
I think one of the funniest ones was my mate RW Day who saw a big advert for peanuts on a billboard and it simply said:
“WE SHIP PEANUTS”
Then she knew she’d been a slash writer for far too long!

I came in through fanfiction, read a gorgeously hot shag fest with Lucius Malfoy and Severus Snape and I thought I must be perverted. For about five minutes, when I realised that male fantasies are two men in bed together so this was perfectly natural. Never looked back.
I think the funniest one is my mate RWDay saw an advert for a peanut distributor that simply said “We Ship Peanuts”
She was wondering about Charlie and Linus the rest of the day…

I love reading manlove. Never thought I’d write it, but LOVED reading it. Then one day I was writing a short little menage, going along smoothly, and bam! Got hit between the eyes when my one hero reached over and said, “Let me.” to the other hero. And he did. I was shocked at myself because it was so unexpected. My editor laughed at me and asked me to writed some more. So I am :) A straight m/m. It’s hotter than hell. I think anyway, LOL.

Let’s see… I guess it started with a guilty little m/m blowjob in Dark Elves. I thought that was so daring! Then I graduated to a menage where Michael and Rudy were VERY much into each other. Again, I was impressed with myself. Then I got talked into trying my hand at a yaoi story. That was pretty much the nail in the coffin right there *g*
But you forgot:
- you’re convinced the cute little clerk is doing the hunky bad-boy bag boy
- you KNOW you saw the nice young man at the desk check out the ass of the man who just walked by
- your SO now points out cute boys to you because he knows you’ll be pissed if you missed them

I’m a late bloomer and innocent and naive. Okay, stop laughing now! I started reading Loose-id books about three years ago, and then discovered Jules Jones, then Jet Mykles, then… er… you, Ally. *g* And sometime during this, in fact, during all this, I wanted to write for Loose-Id and couldn’t think of a good enough idea and the best idea I had was largely a m/m story so I ran with it. I still like m/f but darn it if m/m isn’t more fun! As a reader, I guess I like men so want to read about men. I find many m/f books are written in a way as to put me off so there’s a very few writers that I like, and as a writer m/m just gives you so many more stories to work with, so much more angst. There’s also the shock factor when people who think they’ve known you for years just go ‘you’re doing what?’ LOL. What’s not to love about any of that? I write other non-romantic things and I do want to write a m/f some day but hell, my imagination goes where it wants and won’t listen to me any longer.

LOL Jet! I KNEW you’d jump on the “crack”!
Heh, that sounds dirty :P
My dh points out guys he thinks I’d like to slash, which is just so cute. I have a few straight male friends who do the same thing :D
Shaz, I totally get you. I’ve tried writing m/f, and my brain won’t let me. I’m just more interested in m/m, there’s no denying it. All the reasons behind that would probably make someone an interesting doctoral thesis O_O

Like many others, I came to M/M love through fanfiction. I hadn’t a clue as to what slash was, but I found out real quick and was addicted. How can I not be? :D
Though I write both M/M and M/F (and a little menage ;) ) the M/M has a stronger pull. I tend to slash a lot of things I come acrose :P My poor hubby doesn’t understand, but still loves me :)

Not to be outdone by Jet… You both said “crack”
Would you believe there was a gay guy in my very first writing attempt? He completely took over the story. It was back before plotting, rules and my loathing of head hopping. And I can remember complaining to Brenda Bryce at the time, “Man I want to write HIS story.” But I figured, no one would want to read it. More to the point, no one would publish it.
Sadly it looks like the poor fellow still isn’t going to get a story. The previous stories are all m/f. And guess who really doesn’t want to write m/f?

Marty LOL! I slash everything too! That’s definitely the hallmark of a Manlover Writer :D
J.L., you totally need to write that story! It would be so funny and cute!

You have Fisting Central and Gaydemon bookmarked under “research”. And you’re serious. (I guess I’ve been searching the internet wrong…cuz I don’t have sites like this bookmarked)
Jet’s:
your SO now points out cute boys to you because he knows you’ll be pissed if you missed them (ha! I just watch my teenagers eyes in public, they have really good boy-radar)
thanks
